The Wake Up October 10, 2007

Filed under: Jerseystaan — jennyjersey @ 7:46 am

I didn’t sleep well tonight. Actually, I didn’t sleep well the night before that either. I have bad dreams where I am haunted or other wise just in a bad spot and everything goes wrong. And so my day starts all wrong and it might take many hours before I am out of my dream reality.
But today I got a really nice wake up! And so it doesn’t matter that I didn’t sleep well. I am looking forward to what this day might bring along. I feel like David, like a conqueror. Today, it will be a good day!

Thank you.

Psalm 108
A song. A psalm of David.

My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing and make music with all my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, higher than the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
and let your glory be over all the earth.

And yes, I have found my bike… ;-)

The importance of being dressed October 3, 2007

Filed under: Jerseystaan — jennyjersey @ 9:11 am

Okay, this post is not as bad as the headline might let you think.

I simply realised today how important clothes are, what a difference thay can make.
This week I’ve been working at home writing on a paper. I have found it hard to get started with the writing and I keep doing all kinds of things so that I wouldn’t have to write. And as I am only at home I don’t care what I where, and so I usually have something very comfortable on, and therefore also not so fancy…
But today I got a good start on the day. I woke up just a bit earlier and decided that this is going to be a good day and I will be very effective, and I so far I have done a good job. One thing that has helped me though, is that i put on really nice clothes! I look like I could go to work or hold a presentation at some company, well maybe not that, but this is so far from a PJ! And now, looking like this, I cannot just walk around doing nothing, I have to “honour” the clothes and work like I’m dressed! If you look alert, you will feel alert!

Nice clothes make you work hard

Here are some other tips on how to get a paper written:

1. Go to bed
2. Wake up
3. Eat
4. Pray
5. Turn off the music
6. Start writing on anything you have something to say, even though you might not get a whole chapter done
7. Do quick check on all your e-mail, facebook, blog, myspace etc. before starting so you know they are under control and you are not missing anything but can feel free to write…
8. Skip unnecessary lectures and meetings
9. Go for a run
10. Do someting crazy when you are done

I have always been something of a scatter brain, that is no new thing for me. But never did imagine that I could forget where I put my bike!

My old, purple, DBS Kilimanjaro, where are you?!?

I have to go look for her…

Just my “luck”.

True beauty September 28, 2007

A few true lines on beauty, from the daily reading of Ransomed Heart Ministries

Contrary to what the world claims, Beauty does not diminish with time; beauty deepens and increases. “Your latter glory will be greater than your former.” True beauty comes from a depth of soul that can only be attained through living many years well.

Sofa potatoes September 28, 2007

Weekends are the time of crazy deeds. Apart from searching Nemo we also moved three sofas last Friday and Saturday. The sofa we had had was taken away from us =( and transported to Helsinki. Our lovely neighbour Elli got a new sofa, from Helsinki, and we also got a new sofa from just a few blocks away.
Moving sofas is a lot of fun. You get a free workout and you can change the look of a room quite dramatically. Moving sofas also be a bit more than just a lot of fun, it can be hysterically funny!
Here is a small film on how to move a sofa through town with style! Enjoy! =)

Finding Nemo September 25, 2007

On Saturday Maria and Jennie threw a houswarming party for their friends. A few of us wanted to get something special for them and the idea of a getting them a pet came up. Now, you cannot get them any pet, if you want them to get along well together, so we desided that a Nemo was needed.

Here is a small film about what our quest for finding Nemo was like!

Life and death September 24, 2007

Filed under: Jerseystaan — jennyjersey @ 8:44 pm

A summary of some thoughts this weekend:

We westerners seem to want to control everything. We carefully plan when it is suitable for a new life to enter the world, so that it won’t shake our own plans too much. And we also want to keep the exit of life in our hands, or maybe out of our hands. Death is not a part of our society. Of course sad things are something we wish could be kept far away, but sad doesn’t always equal bad. Hanging out with Jesus and Daddy sounds quite good to me! But I guess most people don’t have this assurance, and maybe that’s why it is easier to keep death at a distant, so we don’t have to think about it. But how can we see God if we think we are God ourselves and act like him?
(This doesn’t meen I am against child control or pro death, just thinking…)

Another thing I read about in a book. It is again about us westerners. This quite clever guy Sven Something says in his book about depression that we have changed fear into agony (ångest). In many developing countries people fight for their lives and they fear death. We do not have to fight for our lives, seems like many of us do not want our lives at all. We are afraid of things from the inside, we fear rejection and loneliness. Often we are not really aware of what we fear and this gives us agony, which is really hard to let go.
I think the solution to many problems is Love. If we know we are loved with everything we hide and dream of, we would not be so afraid of being let down or unwanted. Jesus said that we should love one another, and that it is the greatest commandment, all the others could be concluded in this one.

So, pray for Love to enter your heart, so that you are really filled with it, and it runs over into everything else you do. Make your day, and make your friends day, say: I like you, or: I love you, or: you are welcome just as you are.
With God anything is possible!

(Now I’ll stop preaching…)

My desire September 21, 2007

Filed under: Jerseystaan — jennyjersey @ 6:02 am

I’m giving You my heart, all that is within
I lay it all down, for the sake of You my King

I’m giving You my dreams, laying down my rights
I’m giving up my pride, for the promise of new life

And I surrender all to You, all to You
And I surrender all to You, all to You

I’m singing You this song, I’m waiting at the cross
All the world holds dear, I count it all as loss

For the sake of knowing You, for the glory of Your name
To know the lasting joy, even sharing in Your pain

And I surrender it all to you, all to You

Seems lika boring updates that I am still alive is all that is beeing written on this blog. Well it is true, I am alive, and very well so.

Life in Turku is starting to roll in the same rythm as last year, and it feels good to be back here again. Of course things have changed. Most obviously: Kitte is no longer here and a certain young man takes up much of my thoughts and time… We are also starting a youth group in church which is really exiting!

But I do feel one thing has changed in me too. I miss the country side, beeing close to nature with fields, forests and lakes. This grey urban architecture doesn’t impress me much, although there are many beautiful places in Turku also.

Update August 27, 2007

Filed under: Jerseystaan — jennyjersey @ 7:05 pm

So, finally I have access to the internet!! My Svågeri (Brother-in-law), who also wanted to be mentioned in this entry =) hooked me up on their net and I have been able to check important sites as mku.fi, mickelsson.net and myspace.com…
Oh yeah, and my sister was interviewed for Austrian television today! How about that!
(She also wanted to see her name here…)
(That last thing was dictated by my Svågeri. Did I mention him already??)

Anyway,

I am doing really good. Leon has stayed with us in Ingå the last two weeks and we’ve had a really good time! He has been real manly and worked on mum and dad’s new home while I’ve been working in the store. Yesterday I came home from Kokkola where we attended the wedding of Leon’s second cousin.
Now it’s only three hard days of work left and then I am off to Turku and the studies that start next week. I am looking forward to living there again! I miss my friends and my “own” apartment.

Now, it’s time for bed.
Once we get our internet working again the updates will be a bit more regular…
